Hello - I am helping a friend of mine troubleshoot his new installation of mbam pro. We did a virus removal and installed MBAM pro as a preventative. After installation and licensing, it will not start the filesystem protection module on boot. I can start it manually by clicking on the icon in the task tray, but it will not start on boot. The computer has a license for avast internet security as well. In my troubleshooting I have completely uninstalled both, then installed mbam by itself. It still did not work. I checked it's service, and it is set for automatic and is running. I found that there is no run key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. It was implied on a forum post that this may be the issue, but I can't find what it SHOULD be, and reinstalling is not fixing it. Any ideas?

Hello and :welcome:

Please run the tools below and ATTACH (do not copy and paste) the logs so someone can better assist you.

Please post an mbam-check log:

Create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please attach the CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next reply
Next:

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt

You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Since the person who started this thread didn't reply, I will, because I have the same problem (which seems to be going around and which Google turns up only failed attempts to solve it in this forum). I'm attaching my txt files and hoping for the best. Thanks!

Hello maloliver and Welcome to Malwarebytes

Its normally better to start your own topic, even though you may have a similar issue, everyone's computer is different so what applies to one person does not necessarily apply to another.

That being said, you seem to have other issues going on with this computer that are either related to having malware or having a hardware/software conflict or failure. In order to assist you with your issue it would be best to have an expert guide you through the process to figure out what's going on. We need to run other tools that can not be run on this section of the forum.

Being that you maybe infected or having issues, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Thank you
