Hello there, I'm hoping someone can help. Some time either on Monday night or Wednesday night last week, I got a virus on my Tablet PC running on a Windows XP Platform. My internet explorer will not launch, so I can't load any of the software fixes mentioned in these forums. I manually copied Malware Bytes from my home PC to my Tablet using an SD card, and was able to unload it onto the desktop but it would not install. Just like when I double click my IExplorer icon, the hourglass comes on for a bit, then nothing happens.

All of the other pre-loaded software (ie Word, Outlook) appear to operate normally, no slow PC, no pop ups or warnings, though the Malicious Software Removal Tool said it found and deleted a Trojan. Further, I cannot run a System Restore, though a number of restore points are available, when I click on them nothing happens, it won't let me, and I've noticed that Disk Defragmenter won't work, either. I cannot get online in any way, except to the Windows Help Centre to download automatic updates. Whenever I click on the web address for microsoft.com from there, the computer locks up. It seems that any new software added will not open or launch.

Sometimes, when I go to put the Tablet in standby mode, an error comes up indicating that it cannot enter standby mode because Microsoft Office or one of its components is accessing a file from the network. If I shut it down and restart, sometimes this fixes the problem temporarily. When I run the task manager, even with no software running, there seems to be activity there, but nothing is showing as running. I noticed that Word, Outlook, and other Office files were modified on March 31st at about 8:35 pm which is one of the suspected times of infection.

Please tell me there is a fix here without uninstalling Office or (worse!) Windows! As the tablet doesn't have an internal CD drive, and I don't own a portable CD drive, I really don't want to have to do that. I don't even know if I have the original CD's anyway. This is a work pc and I work away from the office and at home wirelessly.

Please Help!!
