MrBiz Posted November 22, 2013 ID:756701 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Was using my mothers pc and avast said adobe needs updating , so it direct me to get.adobe.com, firstly the download link died (asking me if i mean Xxxxx) , then i tried again, this time i got an installer that licences to Solid State Network (which is some other company not related to adobe and isnt very well known according to WOT), i uploaded a sample to virsutotal and though its not flagged (yet), symantec has listed it as suspicious (look in the "addition information section")https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/c2b5651553686e6c793c9ed631f4cf5beb3e2b4657a2734589f851a9965e6135/analysis/1385108249/should i submit a sample to you guy and let you test it (its 1mb)back then i had a similar experience when i use to use adobe product, i would go to the legit site, download the updater and when i ran it , a message would come up about the certificate being unknown, i would then cancel, redownload then everything would be back to normali wonder if these guy maintain there servers well and im sure adobe updates are applied to IE via windows update or am i wrong? CWB Posted November 22, 2013 ID:756750 Share Posted November 22, 2013 "Was using my mothers pc ..." to play it safe i would strongly recommend going to the malware removal section and make sure the machine is clean .start here :https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=9573 personally , i do not allow any "automatic" updating of anything "not windows" via windows update or those "let us update all your software" programs run ...always go back to the original manufacturer of the software to check for updates . CWB Posted November 24, 2013 ID:757465 Share Posted November 24, 2013 i did a little digging and thought i would post this (obfuscated vernacular terminology for sexual reproduction notwithstanding) :http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,27069021 it would seem that now there is yet another "updater/service" to be concerned about/with .on the other hand , if something does go awry with a download/update , adobe can say "not me man ..." . David H. Lipman Posted November 24, 2013 ID:757481 Share Posted November 24, 2013 If you go the main home page of Adobe and choose to download Flash, you will get an approx 1MB EXE downloader. It downloads the appropriate Flash installer. It is digitally signed by Adobe and is created by Solid State Networks under contract. Why Adobe has to provide a downloader to download the Flash installer is unknown but I don't see a problem in the downloader or the Flash installer. I always get files directly. One way is the Adobe FTP site and the other is by finding the corporate distribution pages. Enterprise network managers don't like bundled software installers or downloaders. They want direct installers to update users on their networks. For Flash it is...Adobe Flash Player Distribution The direct downloads are...Direct download to Adobe Flash for IE and ActiveX Direct download to Adobe Flash for Browsers using a Plug-In
