After installing and running Malwarebytes I keep getting the message: Successfuly blocked access to a potentially malicious website 88.214.193.212 (or 66.45.56.109). Type Outgoing, Port: (various) Process dllhost.exe

In Task Manager there are multiple instances (more than six) of dllhost.exe which seems to be associated with 100% CPU use.

There is only one dllhost.exe file on the computer.

Numerous AVG, spybot, and Malwarebyes scans fails to remove the source of the use of the dllhost.exe program.

MrCharlie,

Below is a copy of an earlier today post except the post had the contents of the new debug.log. It did not seem to reach you since it never appeared on the Forum. I don't understand why posts with included data (copied from a Notebook file) don't make it to the Forum.

I did get a clue to the RogueKiller operation. An additional run of RogueKiller which I closed after it hung resulted in a file "RKreport[0]_S_11262013_193659.txt. The file however was empty. This was the only time of many runs of RogueKiller that such a file was created.

Each run of RogueKiller results in a folder named RK_Quarantine which variously contains a file debug.log, RogueKiller.ini, or none at all.

Apparently I have a problem with RogueKiller64 with my system since I have never had it complete a scan properly.

While running in Safe Mode, I don't have significant excessive CPU ussage (formerly mostly 100%) and no "Successfuly blocked access to a potentially malicious website 88.214.193.212 (or 66.45.56.109)" messages.

MrCharlie,

I was finally able to get into safe mode (I'm operating the computer remotely), downloaded and ran RogueKiller64. The results were similar to what I have reported previously. There was a prescan, then a scan in which five (previously nine) objects were detected, then Status: "Searching for Policy Hijacks -> (HJINPROC)" comes up and the progress bar stops and the program seems to hang.

The desktop folder RK_Quarantine contains one file, debug.log with the following data:

OK, skip RK and run this scan:

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE

  • Unzip the contents to a folder in a convenient location.
  • Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
  • Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
  • Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
  • Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log.txt and system-log.txt

Note:

If no additional threats were found, verify that your system is now running normally, making sure that the following items are functional:

Internet access

Windows Update

Windows Firewall

If there are additional problems with your system, such as any of those listed above or other system issues, then run the fixdamage tool included with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and reboot. It's located in the Plugins folder which is in the MBAR folder.

Just run fixdamage.exe.

Verify that they are now functioning normally.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Next:

Please download and run ComboFix.

The most important things to remember when running it is to disable all your malware programs and run Combofix from your desktop.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please make sure you click download buttons that look similar to this, not "sponsored ad links":

bleep-crop.jpg

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.

Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.

Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

MrCharlie,

First of all, l sincerely thank you with bearing with my problems through all of this. At the present time the computer seems to be working properly!!!

Your last reply suggested that I download ComboFix and run from desktop, which I attempted. However I am operating the infected computer remotely using TeamViewer 8 and/or RealVNC. Unfortunately there are times when ComboFix disconnects from the internet but still needs control inputs, therefore I'm unable to complete use of ComboFix. The normal user of the computer is not facile with the operation of the computer or with computerese, so I'm hesitant to take a chance of messing up the computer by misunderstood verbal only communication and especially since I'm unfamiliar with ComboFix.

Therefore my question to you, do you think that the computer's apparently running normally is sufficient to skip the further tests with ComboFix, or is it necessary to take a chance of possible problems with miss-operation of ComboFix?

Again, thank you for your patience and help!!

Bayard
