Can I exclude directories from scan?

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting question for me as I want to exclude as little as possible.

I've found I can exclude by full file path...

For example: c:\program files\file.exe is accepted in the ignore list.

I can also say c:\program files\ but does this imply it will exclude all files in c:\program files? (* is not an accepted character in the ignore list so I can't use that)

Further, I am scanning across multiple operating systems where a program location might be different between machines.

I can't do something like *\file.exe for applications that might be in programfiles or programfiles(x86).

How are other people accomplishing managing their ignore lists?

Thanks in advance,

Hi James,

In Malwarebytes Enterprise Edition (MEE), you are able to use * in your files paths.  It should be listed under the examples as:

C:\Windows\SystemFolder\*

However, you are correct in that *\file.exe will not work.

What can be done in the latest version of MEE (1.3) is you can add a detected file in the threat view to the ignore list.  This will add the specific path and file, so you may need to add it for multiple machines if they are in different locations.

Simply right-click on the detection and you will have the option to "Exclude this object for all clients..."

Please let me know if this helps.
