Hi,

My name is Adi and I'm working at iLivid as member of reputation and compliance team,
http://www.ilivid.com/ .

iLivid Download Manager offers you the fastest and easiest way to download videos from all the popular online video and file hosting sites.

Recently, I did a scan of our product in your site and it seems that you marked one of our files as PUP.Optional.Bandoo:

http://download.ilivid.com/iLividSetup.exe

Can you please explain what the meaning of this definition?

Link for the VirusTotal scan –

Needless to say that our reputation is very important to us and to our users, each file that you show during the scan has an unprecedented impact.
Please follow as soon as possible to remove this file from your databases.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Hi,

This is no false positive.

We do not list your program as malicious, but as PUP, which means "Potential Unwanted Program".

A PUP detection is not preselected by default for removal, so it's users choice whether (s)he wants to remove it or not.

The main reason why this is detected as PUP is:

* It has been submitted by many users to us as unwanted

* Since other vendors are detecting this as well, this means, it has been submitted to them too

* A searchresult displays that iLivid is often refered to as a virus or malware: https://www.google.com/search?name=f&hl=en&q=ilivid and https://www.google.com/search?name=f&hl=en&q=Bandoo+media

* There's a plethora of complaints about this: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/ilivid.com?utm_source=addon&utm_content=warn-viewsc and users see this as unwanted

* The ilivid installer is bundled with an additional software, which is preselected to get installed, so most users install the additional (mostly unwanted software) anyway - this is deceptive.

* The bundled software is in most cases a PUP already, because the main goal of these bundled software is advertising and has no real additional value.

These are all reasons why something is listed as a PUP.
