Update Button updates Definitions but not Program

Recommended Posts

Running MB Pro - When I run "Check for Updates" or when my scheduled update runs it only updates the definition files but not the program itself. I've been on version 1.70 forever it seems and by accident I discovered that the most current program version was 1.75. I finally had to download the trial version to update my pro version to 1.75. Is there a reason that the program itself never updates?

Hello and :welcome:

Check your updater settings to ensure you have the right options...

Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Click on the Settings Tab

Click on Updater Settings

Make sure you have check marks on these two items:

Download and install program updates if available.

Notify me when a program update is ready for installation.

Please run the tools below and ATTACH (do not copy and paste) the logs so someone can better assist you. (see if we can see what's going on)

Please post an mbam-check log:

Create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please attach the CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next reply
Next:

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt

You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

  • Root Admin

In the current version of the program if there is a program update it will download it but it will not install it until a user manually launches the program with Administrative rights.

We are working on an update for the next version of the program that will automatically perform program updates but for now it is not possible and requires user actions to do so.

Thanks

Ron,

Thanks for the updater info.  I was curious so I checked my Pro settings and version:

Version 1.70.

My Updater settings are checked as indicated from your screencap.

As far as I can see (checking my "Downloads" default folder), I haven't seen new-version downloads but perhaps they've downloaded previously and are in another location.

You should be able to look in the following folder to see if there is a program update:  C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Double click on the program to launch MBAM with Admin rights and it should prompt you if the file is there.

Was this an install from a Retail CD or from a cleverbridge download purchase?

I installed it from the download site.  I checked my original e-mail with the keys from Cleverbridge.

I just checked my malwarebytes folder location and I have one download file:

mbam-setup.exe   12/27/12

I haven't ran the file yet from the folder location.

I launched my MBAM console with Admin rights but it's not prompting me.  I'm guessing that the reason is that the .exe file in my folder is the same version 1.70.

If you right click and choose properties it should show the version on one of the entries.

Thanks :)  I had done that earlier but didn't check the "details" tab in Properties.

It's as guessed, the current version that I'm running.  That's why I don't get the prompt, right?

I'm not sure why the current version didn't download.  Perhaps my Norton AV blocked it without my knowing about it.

I'd probably recommend running the following so that you have a good clean working version and don't have to worry about any old files.

MBAM Clean Removal Process

Thanks

Thanks for the info.  I'll run the removal instructions at next opportunity on my PC.
