Recommended Posts

Dfrom ear all,

probably my problem is duplicate to a lot of other posts, however, I do not feel able, to go through all this and try any of the suggested steps without some help. Attached please find the two files from DDS.COM. Is there anybodyout there, who can check into these and provide me with som advice wether or not my system is infected and what to do??

Thank you very much for your help and understanding,

best regards,

Uwe

Dear MrC & Crew,

first and foremost: Thank you VERY much for the prompt reply on SUNDAY....

I did the steps 1. and 2. (uninstalling Dowtango and the Downtango Launcher, then downloading and running "Roguekiller").

"Roguekiller" seems to run for ages (in fact it is still running and I just write to give you a short feedback). The only thing detected up to now are two entries in the registry: Type "PUM", Key-Type "HJ DESK", Global "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", Key "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel" followed by a hexvalue and the datavalue of "1".

Still running. I should mention, that I do not use Internet Explorer but Firefox.

Does this mean anything to you??

Thanks a lot for your help and best regards,

Uwe

OK...lets run some scans:

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE

  • Unzip the contents to a folder in a convenient location.
  • Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
  • Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
  • Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
  • Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log.txt and system-log.txt
To attach a log if needed:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Note:
If no additional threats were found, verify that your system is now running normally, making sure that the following items are functional:
Internet access
Windows Update
Windows Firewall
If there are additional problems with your system, such as any of those listed above or other system issues, then run the fixdamage tool included with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and reboot. It's located in the Plugins folder which is in the MBAR folder.
Just run fixdamage.exe.
Verify that they are now functioning normally.
...... o.k. ..... did as you requested. Result is, "no malware found". Of course I will check if there is anything else. One thing I need to mention:
I got a message that a new version of the VLC media player (2.1.0) was available, which I installed (the installed media player was on 2.0.8). After the installation I found that the start windows of both, Firefox and Internet Explorer were goung to a "startup page", which I didn't wat to use, so I changed the internet options in both browsers accordingly.
However, everything seems to look bright and beautiful, doesn't it??
Best regards,
Uwe
After the installation I found that the start windows of both, Firefox and Internet Explorer were goung to a "startup page", which I didn't wat to use, so I changed the internet options in both browsers accordingly.
VLC probably came with some adware, we'll clean it up later.
However, everything seems to look bright and beautiful, doesn't it??
Like I said, we'll run some scans.
Please download and run ComboFix.
The most important things to remember when running it is to disable all your malware programs and run Combofix from your desktop.
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.
Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.
Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.
Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
---------->NOTE<----------
If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.
o.k., sorry, but it took a while, as some of the descriptions are probably not up to date (disabling Norton 360 requires some additional things: Click on the icon, go to settings, go to "Antivirus" and disable manually "Autoprotect", "Sonar" and then go to Spyware and disable the spyware scanner, then go to intelligent Firewall and disable it as well - just disabling "Autoprotect" will not do).
However, I ran Combofix successfully and attached are the two files I got, Combifix.txt and Combofix-Quarantined-Files.txt.
What do you think?? Everything clean now?
Best regards - now from "dark" Germany (Bavaria),
OK...Next:
Lets clean out any adware now: (this will require a reboot so save all your work)
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
    Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • When it's done you'll see: Pending: Please uncheck elements you don't want removed.
  • Now click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • Look over the log especially under Files/Folders for any program you want to save.
  • If there's a program you may want to save, just uncheck it from AdwCleaner.
  • If you're not sure, post the log for review. (all items found are adware/spyware/foistware)
  • If you're ready to clean it all up.....click the Clean button.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[s0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.
  • Items that are deleted are moved to the Quarantine Folder: C:\AdwCleaner\Quarantine
  • To restore an item that has been deleted:
  • Go to Tools > Quarantine Manager > check what you want restored > now click on Restore.
Then..................
Open up Malwarebytes > Settings Tab > Scanner Settings > Under action for PUP > Select: Show in Results List and Check for removal.
Please Update and run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, post the report.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
Please let me know how computer is running now, MrC
As it is quite late in Germany now, I will let Malware Bytes do a full system scan over night (it takes several hours) to see, if the BSOD recurs. I will let you know tomorrow, o.k.???
Again, let me thank you VERY much for your excellent support and the prompt handling. This is something any professional "Help(less)-Line can take as an example.....
Talk to you tomorrow,
best regards,
.... now it is half an hour past midnight, checking the computer, anoterh BSOD had happended - at, most probably, the same location as before. As the system just gathers some info and then reboots it is almost impossible to state what has happended. However, after restart Windows offers to look for a solution and displays some detailed data - here is the copy:
Thanks again, and good night,
.... allright, sorry to let you wait, but I couldn't use my computer for a while. Just to check whether or not everything is o.k., I ran a CHKDSK and these take pretty long on large harddisks .... :-( , so the results showed some errors in the MFT ..... So, why don't you let me do another full scan and see, if this was the problem, that caused MalwareBytes to crash?? I will let you know. If this works, I am happy, however all the work w did too isn't in vain, as I believe, we removed some vulnerabilities from the system and it should run much better now again. ...
Best regards,
Uwe
... o.k., some more feedback:
No good news. uring full scan the system crashed again, however at a different point, much later, than before. But even worse, after that, you couldn't restart windows. It went up, with a thoroughly messed up desktop and then went into a system hang. Only solution was power down the hard way .... After that, reserring the system to a stat of Saturday. Now I am back and running. However, now - of course some of the deleted stuff turns up again.... So, what shall we do??
At the moment I would suggest - nothing.. I need to do some urgent work, whether the system is infected or not, as long as things I have to do work, I am o.k. I will then try to cleanup some stuff and come back to you in this post. Would you agree??
.
Anyway, thanks again for your patience and help. I will sure come back after some more research here. But it looks to me, as if something in the data structure on my harddisk is crashing Malwarebytes, not necessarily a virus or similar, but let's see.
If you have any other clue at the moment, I would be happy to look at it, if not, let's get in touch again later, o.k.??
Very best regards and thanks,
Uwe
Hi thereon , yes, I am stll with you, however, my system got just more and more unstable also after using the above mentioned Spyremover.
Therefore - at the moment - I am trying to recover as much of my data as possible and thereafter will re-install Windows, to get to a clean platform. Then let's see....
However this will take a while, as I ahve to do some work besides. The productive work I am doing on my Mac partition.... this works...
Best regards, Uwe
P.S.: As soon as I am ready, I will post results here.
