Once in a while I get this message Internet Explore has modified this page to help prevent cross-site scripting.

does this mean that my computer has some sort of malware or virus I have done scans for malware and virus and none are found. Am I missing something or do I need extra protection.

A quick Google search turns up this, see if it helps....

Internet Explorer - Cross-site Scripting (XSS) Filter - Turn On or Off

How do I prevent Internet Explorer from modifying pages for cross-site scripting?

All that being said, if you want to make sure its an infection, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Cross-site Scripting (aka; XSS) is a methodology to get you infected.  It does not mean you are infected and if you get "Internet Explore has modified this page to help prevent cross-site scripting" then IE patches that have been installed to prevent XSS exploitation attempts are working.
