Newest Mbar running but has no visible window.

Recommended Posts

malwarebytes runs fine and says I am clean.

had some odd issues with windows update and other things but have fixed them all.. just was running a mbar because I do that every so often... especially after issues.

mbar runs according to task manager(in the process field, not applications...0 cpu) and doesnt say "not responding"

and when i try to click mbar.exe or mbar.cmd again, it says it is already running and wants to know if i want to start another process.

anyways this is concerning as this is what a rootkit would try to do.

any ideas?

Hello and :welcome:
Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
  • You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file and just post it or attach it.

Please create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post, instead please attach the log CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next post

I don't see anything obvious that would be causing it to not launch but I do see that you have a TON of PUP (Possibly Unwanted Program) adware type installations on the computer.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

yeah i didnt see anything unusual either, and all of them PUPs i installed myself and so they arent "unwanted"

running a sophos instead.. everything else security related seems to run fine and comes clean.

thanks for the help, hopefully it will work itself out on the next update.
