That is left up to the anti virus application.  Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) is a supplement to a fully installed anti virus application and is not a replacement.

I have been using Malwarebytes for years now, so I'm well aware of what it is and isn't. I was hoping to get a response from the Moderator / Malwarebytes development team.

No it currently cannot address an invalid entry in a hosts file.  Perhaps in a future version but the hosts file itself had to have been modified by another process and often that process is an infection that we would typically deal with unless possibly due to a Java exploit or OS exploit.
