This error just happened as I was listening to a baseball game while browsing the internet.  I thought for sure my computer would shut down while it was happening, but it recovered.

Over-Clocking is setting the CPU frequency higher than suggested.  For example if the base frequency is 100MHz and you set it to 1106MHz

Go to;  http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Choose;  "Check your system for updates"

If it is IE, it will install an ActiveX control

if it is Firefox it will run a Java Applet (you will need Oracle Java v7 update 40)

It will examine your system for Intel based hardware and either indicate there is an update or it will indicate "This version is valid." which means the Inntel associated driver is up-to-date.

---

1.  The multiplier makes it the actual CPU frequency.  If the CPU is rated @ 2.4GHz using a base frequency set at 100MHz then the multiplier is 24x. If the base frequency is increased to 106MHz then the CPU is over-clocked to 2.544GHz.

until the manufacturer of the drive is posted and david jumps back in ... a little information .

if a HD is going bad (ie : bad sectors) it is almost a sure bet that it will have to be replaced .

some drives will have a few bad sectors and that will be all there is ... the drive stabilizes and it can run for years with no further problems .

the drive has embedded firmware hat allows it to "route around" or "bypass" the bad sectors , akin to what happens when roadwork is done ...

except there are no people waving flags .

in other cases , the drive is on the downhill run and it will fail (be damaged) to the point of catastrophic failure ... dead in the water .

there is a diagnostic on the drive known as SMART ... this keeps track of many events and things particular to the HD .

the best thing to do is to first download a "disk checking" tool that is specific to the HD manufacturer ...

david can help you out with that end of things .

Assuming there is no problem with the hard disk, wiping the OS and reinstalling the OS will negate any present problems (assuming that during the installation one doesn't introduce new problems).

Who is the Manufacturer of the Hard Disk ? (Western Digital, Hitachi, SeaGate, etc)

Have you experienced any new BSoD conditions since the last time you posted a few days ago ?
