Pirated Version

This is an official post from one of the developers of the product regarding the pirated version message. You may quote me and repost this wherever necessary.

As of version 1.35, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware takes action on users with a pirated license key by displaying a message. The message is inaccurate and is meant to be a scare tactic. Users who have ever attempted to register the product with a blacklisted license key will receive this message and the product will no longer register, even with a legitimate license key.

Originally, this was supposed to be one of many little scare tactics to prevent pirates from trying to register the software again using another legitimate license key, however, something apparently went terribly wrong. The message began displaying the message to users who confirmed not being pirates. Whether or not this is true is beyond the point, the issue must be corrected.

We at Malwarebytes apologize for any issues users have experienced with this message and promise two things,

(1) This message will be changed to portray the proper actions that were taken, which are none. No information was actually sent to any server and never will. We are an anti-spyware company, not a spyware company.

(2) We will bring in addiitional developers to check, double check, and triple check the code to make sure it executes properly.

So, if someone has tried the pirated version and has decided to purchase a legitimate licence key they cannot then register MBAM on their comp for real-time protection?

If so what can they do?

They need to contact the helpdesk. We can tell them how to get it working again.

I'm a little confused. Did this only happen to users who had a pirated version or did it happen to everyone? I downloaded the free version a couple days before version 1.36 came out. I never saw this message. Did it happen to everyone or only certain people?

Oh, okay! Thanks for the clarification. ;)

It only happened to a certain group of people, some who denied they were pirates, others who confirmed it.
