Anti-Malware will not run. msas2009.

Recommended Posts

Tried everything else i found, device manager blank! Anti-Malware will not run I have cleaned out the folders containing the MS Antispyware2009, registry and hundreds of strangely named programs in the temporary files that were starting with the system startup. Computer is running great, but still cannot run any kind of antivirus or anti-malware.

I went to the device manager and it is completely blank. searching system32/drivers comes up with none of the mentioned problem drivers. Something has to still be wrong. Even renaming Malwarebytes Anti-malware did not do anything. This is the newest version of the malwarebytes software. Computer has no network connectivity, nor any recognition of usb devices or sound.

The problem is with a friend's computer. Any advice or direction would be much appreciated.

My guess is that the main antivirus program installed on the system is blocking Malwarebytes from running. Mine doesn't do that, but it does block updates. I have to temp turn off the antivirus program in order to get Malwarebytes to update. Just a thought. If it ran before on the system and is not running now, then a trojan or malware might be shutting it down. That happened to me also.

My friend had no real anti-virus or spyware protection, and was infected with "msantispyware 2009" I installed Malwarebytes to fix the problem but I cannot run any scans or other programs that will solve the problem due to the bug. The fix where you disable a certain spyware driver in order to once again use Malwarebytes does not work because there is NOTHING in the device manager, and searches will not find the driver that causes blocking of these programs. Renaming programs got them to install, but it did not work to run them. Thinking I'm going to have to have her purchase a fresh copy of XP pro and start over from scratch unless someone can help me out.

Please follow these instructions (skipping any steps you are unable to complete) for posting in our Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum. If you cannot follow any of those steps, then please create a new topic in that forum explaining what happened when you tried to run each of the tools in the instructions, and the expert who helps you will be able to suggest steps to take to get the tools working.
