PUP.optional.OpenCandy Malware Removal

Recommended Posts

A couple days ago I was trying to install iTunes and I kept getting errors like:"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'microsoft.vc80.CRT', Public Key Token="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b", Type="Win32", Version="8.0.50727.6195" HRESULT: 0x8007007E" and errors like "service apple mobile device failed to start. Please verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I then checked my windows update in control panel and saw that I have been having problems updating my system ever since February of 2013. I then ran a full anti-malware scan and it said that I had 8 cases of PUP.optional.OpenCandy and said to delete them so I did. I then ran a quick scan with Microsoft security essentials after I ran the anti malware scan but It found nothing. So my question is how do I fix this so that I can download iTunes,  not have this problem with downloading any other programs and remove this virus/malware if I have any? Thanks and sorry I wrote kinda long.

P.S I saw someone else who wrote a similar thread about this but at the button of the page I saw an admin post: "Other members who need assistance please start your own topic in a new thread." so that is why I am posting a new thread.

Step 1

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
Step 2

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Clean.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt as well.
Step 3
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to Update tab and select Check for Updates. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

For some reason the AdwCleaner wouldn't let me select clean and would only let me select scan or uninstall so If you could tell me how to enable the clean that would be great. Also I posted a screenshot of what It looked like for me in case you would need it. Here are the other 2 scan logs tho:
