My system did an auto-update of Malwarebtyes at 1:00 AM (EST) on 3/28/09. Everything seemed fine, but upon restart, Windows will not start. Can't start in safe mode, enter setup, etc. The error says

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

How to repair the OS? There is no repair disc. This is an Acer laptop Travelmate 4230, and there is supposed to be a built-in repair function. Yeah right. I did have a backup DVD I made when I bought the computer... but the computer seems to ignore the DVD when I load it or start with the DVD in. There's just some text on a screen stating the original error.

Perhaps you know a wy to repiar I am ignorant of?

Thanks for your response.
