Tried to upgrade Malwarebytes through the update process and got this error message, see attachment. Uninstalled Malwarebytes with Revo to make sure everything was gone. Rebooted and tried to reinstall Malwarebytes and got the same error message. Thought maybe MBA-M had begun scanning or something, though hadn't told it to do so. Checked Task Manager, it was not running. I have deleted every last file, registry key and folder rebooted after deleting everything and tried again to install, same error. Tried installing in Safe Mode with no go,Tried a new download of the .exe, still keep getting the error. Then tried installing version 1.34 and I still get the same error. Can somebody Help? I love this program and don't want to lose it.

Please try following the instructions here and reboot, then try installing 1.35 to see if that fixes it. Also make sure you've disabled any other security software that might be running in the background, like your AV, until you've gotten it installed.

Followed the directions, also made sure that ALL security programs were turned off and when i went to use that tool i got this error SHGetvalue failed with error code 6 and of course nothing worked. I went back and cleaned out EVERTHING I could find after trying to install again, did every file, folder, prefetch, every gd thing i could find about that program on this machine. I am 110% confident there is nothing related to MBAM on this machine

Tried to reinstall from a fresh download in Safe Mode, first 2 times I tried that, a Dos window of all things came up and that was it, didnt even start to install.

Installed Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe). Rebooted. Used the MBAM clean up tool which you so kindly provided me and it appeared to have worked,no error messages, appeared to clean everything up. Looked in the registry, no keys, Program Files, no folder. Rebooted.

Downloaded the new copy of MBA-M and attempted to install in normal mode, but it would not install. So booted to safe mode, the admin account and was able to install Malwarebytes successfully.

Thanks

Could this be a "bug" in the newest version? Had the same thing happen to a friend this evening. I passed on this info to him and he got all to work but had to go through the same steps. 1st computer was running XP Home and the other guy was running Vista. The Vista didn't have to install the Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 but did have to go through full UNINSTALL of the older version, including the MBA-M Clean up tool, though at first he didn't think it worked. But it evidently did as no MBA-M files or folders were found and then he could install the new version.

I don't know, if it is an issue with the new version it must have to do with the installer, perhaps not initially removing and/or reinstalling and reregistering it's components correctly. I've installed it on XP Pro SP3 and Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 so far and didn't run into this problem, but each person's system is different so it could be just a "hiccup" in the install/uninstall routine that only happens under certain circumstances. Hopefully it won't occur too frequently.
