Infected computer PLEASE HELP

Recommended Posts

Copied from original post: "I became infected after receiving a false email and stupidly opening it despite my doubts! Anyway, I got hold of Malwarebytes anti-malware, hijack this, spybot -s&D and even purchased Kaspersky internet security suite 2009. After weeks of trying to remove remaining viruses/trojans/malware I have given up. I seem to be able to get a clean slate - i.e. all programs not seeming to flag anything up and report no infections, but on the next reboot they are back. The one in particular that i seem unable to remove completely is trojan.vundo.h and the names poboyifenu and zegofadu keep appearing. Resident Teatimer in spybot blocks changes to my registry about every 5 seconds, and when i start up i get the message: Unable to locate specified module "c:\WINDOWS\system32\zegofadu".

I attempted getting my PC clean and then turning off system restore (as I had seen on other threads) but after a second reboot, the problem(s) were back! I have also tried running the programs in safe mode and although this has more success removing at time of scan, in the end the results seems the same.

I am running Windows XP Professional x64 edition"

I have followed the "I'm infected - what do i do now?" instructions

Hi ,

I believe that possibly KASP realtime(PDM) and SpyBot Tea-timer might interfere with MBAM detection and removal routines on your PC.

Can you please only for a limited duration, switch off both KASP PDM and also SpyBot Teatimer.

Disconnect the computer from the internet and Reboot.

Run MBAM quick scan again, allow it to remove what it finds then reboot the PC whether prompted or not.

Next reactivate KASP PDM and Tea timer then do MBAM quickscan again to see if the detection persists.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Many Thanks for offering your help.

I did ask you suggested, but the infection is always found - reported as cleared and then reappears - even if i rescan straight away. I attach a screen shot of malwarebytes findings plus the message I get each time i start windows.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure Tea-Timer is blocking the permenent removal of this entry.

Please uninstall SpyBot completely.

Reboot run MBAM quick scan and remove what it finds.Reboot again

Run MBAM quick scan again.

Please post last MBAM log and new HJT log.

Please at this point do not reinstall Spybot as we need to make sure it is not the culprit behind the re-occuring alert.

Thanks in advance :(

Hi,

It would take a while to explain the science but i am sure Teatimer is responsible for both blocking changes if active or restoring changes from saved settings if re-enabled.

The request to uninstall Spybot totally for duration of fix so we can address the issue's underneath.

The scenario required to do this is uninstall SpyBot completely to take it out of the equation.

Run mbam and let it delete what it finds then reboot.

Run HijackThis as Admin and generate a new report log.

Post this to the forum and i will then direct you to any actions that you need todo with HJT.

Then do these ,reboot and then reinstall SpyBot.

Thanks in advance :D

Thank you once again for all you help.

I used the admin account, unistalled what ever I could find of the teatimer. Did MBAM update, qucick scan - results are below - rebooted, did a re-scan and ran HJT - log below.

I can see spybot teatimer on the HJT log, but i can't find any other means to uninstall it. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi,

Judging from the HIjackThis log then the TeaTimer entry is oprhaned lrun value left behind after the Uninstall as the file is'nt showing up in the active Process's.

However you do have an active vundo infection on the PC that is regenerating itself,so we will need to attack this infection.

Please can you rename Hijackthis.exe to foo.exe and run from Admin.please post back the log generated :D

Hi Luke,

Yes the Vundo infection has been fully removed now.

Usually i would highly recomend purchasing MBAM for the realtime ptotection it offers,it is a great compliment to any AV :D

Unfortunelty our Protection module does not offer 64bit support yet so it would'nt work on your system :D

Here's some handy reading tho Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Safe surfing :)
