The following is a list of programs that are commonly installed to allow for various additional enhancements to Windows.

Be sure to read the instructions of all programs in order to download and install the correct version for your computer.
If you're unsure if you need any of these programs then you probably don't need them

 

  • DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
    Overview
    Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces (APIs) for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms. Originally, the names of these APIs all began with Direct, such as Direct3D, DirectDraw, DirectMusic, DirectPlay, DirectSound, and so forth. The name DirectX was coined as shorthand term for all of these APIs (the X standing in for the particular API names) and soon became the name of the collection.

 

  • Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable
    Overview
    The Microsoft® Windows® Installer (MSI) is the application installation and configuration service for Windows. Version 4.5 of the Windows Installer has several new features, including:
    Multiple Package Transaction: In a multiple package transaction, you can create a single transaction from multiple packages. In a multiple package transaction, a chainer is used to dynamically include packages in the transaction. If any of the packages do not install as expected, you can roll back the installation.

 

 

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
    Overview
    The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run 64-bit applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.

 

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
    Overview
    The Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ SP1 on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 SP1 installed.

 

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
    Overview
    The Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run 64-bit applications developed with Visual C++ SP1 on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 SP1 installed.

 

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
    Overview
    The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ 2010 SP1 on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2010 SP1 installed.

 

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
    Overview
    The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run 64-bit applications developed with Visual C++ 2010 SP1 on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2010 SP1 installed.

 

 

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer)
    Overview
    The .NET Framework is Microsoft's comprehensive and consistent programming model for building applications that have visually stunning user experiences, seamless and secure communication, and the ability to model a range of business processes.
    Note: If possible you should try to install and update the .NET Frameworks via the Windows Update site

 

  • Update for Root Certificates For Windows XP [December 2012] (KB931125)
    Overview
    This item updates the list of root certificates on your computer to the list that is accepted by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Root Certificate Program. Adding additional root certificates to your computer enables you to use Extended Validation (EV) certificates in Internet Explorer, a greater range of security enhanced Web browsing, encrypted e-mail, and security enhanced code delivery.

 

  • Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0
    Overview
    The Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 release provides standards-conformant implementations of:


    XML 1.0 (DOM & SAX2 APIs)
    XML Schema (XSD) 1.0
    XPath 1.0
    XSLT 1.0
