I was having trouble with false "Your computer may be infected" type popups, so I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. This seems to have cleared up the problem, but I can't get IE or Chrome to connect to any webpages now. Did a ping www.google.com check and saw no problems - same with Network Connections in control panel. Wondering if there's still a bit of malware causing a browser re-direct.

Here is my Hijack This log (it's V. 1.99.1 because I didn't download the newest version before I started having browser issues, and now I can't update). Thanks in advance...

Hi,

but I can't get IE or Chrome to connect to any webpages now
It's because a proxy is still set there..

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

I don't know where this setting is exactly in Chrome, but it shouldn't be hard to find it.

After doing above, the next entries should be gone in HijackThis:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7171

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;<local>

If not, then fix them in HijackThis.

Also check and fix the following lines:

O1 - Hosts: 195.245.119.131 browser-security.microsoft.com

O18 - Filter: text/html - {dd22a029-a707-432f-bc1f-4d054e574033} - (no file)

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.
