ICE Cyber virus

Recommended Posts

Hello again,

My husband has the ICE virus on his computer. He made a Kaspersky disk so he could run the Kaspersky scan. Infected files were deleted but the problem continues (a dos window open instead of desktop).

He's running malwarebytes right now. Here are his two dds files (attached).

He has a mbam pro license as well.

Thank you.

Please visit this webpage and read the ComboFix User's Guide:

  • Once you've read the article and are ready to use the program you can download it directly from the link below.
  • Important! - Please make sure you save combofix to your desktop and do not run it from your browser
  • Direct download link for: ComboFix.exe
  • Please make sure you disable your security applications before running ComboFix.
  • Once Combofix has completed it will produce and open a log file.  Please be patient as it can take some time to load.
  • Please attach that log file to your next reply.
  • If needed the file can be located here:  C:\combofix.txt
  • NOTE: If you receive the message "illegal operation has been attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", just reboot the computer.

It simply removed a some infections that were affecting the computer.

Please run MBAM and check for updates, then do a Quick Scan and post back the new log.

Next, Please run the following tool.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode to your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • If prompted by the User Account Control click Yes to allow it to run.
  • Under Actions click on the Delete button.
  • Click OK on all prompts.
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the entire contents of that logfile to your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt where the number in brackets indicates how often it was run.

C:\Users\CDSALI1\AppData\Local\2433f433 (Trojan.Agent.TPL) -> No action taken.

Next, Please download the following scanner from Kaspersky and save it to your computer: TDSSkiller

Then watch the following video on how to use the tool and make sure to temporarily disable your security applications before running TDSSkiller.

  • Please download Dr.Web CureIt! antivirus and save it to your computer. The file size is in excess of 100MB
  • NOTE: Free usage of Dr.Web CureIt! for business purposes is illegal.
  • Internet Explorer may show a warning when downloading - the file is safe to download from the provided link.
  • Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts while scanning.
  • Once the scans have completed please re-enable your antivirus.
  • If using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO you can right click over the tray icon and disable the Protection Modules
  • If needed you can also temporarily disable it from starting with Windows
  • Temporarily turn off any other security add-ons or applications you may also have.
  • Once you have downloaded Dr.Web CureIt! you should right click over it and choose Properties and verify it has a Digital Signature.
  • If it does not have a Digital Signature then do not run it.
  • Close all open programs including all Web browsers and then double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the installer.
  • You should have your User Account Control (UAC) enabled for improved security and which should then produce a dialog box asking for approval to run the installer.
  • Click on the Yes button to start the installer.
  • Click OK to scan your computer in the Enhanced Protection Mode
  • Click on the check box to agree to participate in their software improvement program.
  • Then if needed choose your Language by clicking on the small globe like icon in the upper right corner by the wrench.
  • Then click on the Continue button and then click on the Select objects for scanning link just below the "Start scanning" button.
  • Place a check mark on all the items except for Temporary files and System restore points - those items should not have a check mark on them.
  • Then click on the Start scanning button.
  • If a threat is found you can click on the Action column in the program.
  • Your options will be Cure or Ignore
  • If you see an item that you are absolutely sure is OK, then un-check the check box for that item, otherwise keep it on Cure.
  • Then click on the Neutralize button.
  • Once completed click on the green Open Report link. It will open the report in NOTEPAD
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called Cureit.log
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit!
  • Reboot your computer to allow files that were in use to be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, attach the log Cureit.log you saved previously in your next reply.
  • Re-Enable your antivirus and other security programs when all done.

Okay, please update MBAM again and do another Quick  Scan and post back that log.

Please create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post, instead please attach the log CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next post

Also let me get a new DDS scan, and let me know what issues you're continuing to see or experience please.

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file

The logs are attached.

I don't normally use this computer so it's hard for me to say if it's "normal" but the original issue of the ICE screen is gone and the desktop does come up when the computer is started.

FF seems to be okay (I think this is the browser he uses most often).

IE has an annoying security alert saying, "You are about to leave a secure Internet connection. It will be possible for others to view information you send."  The home page is set to MSN. I've never seen this on my computer but I don't use IE unless I have to. =)

Chrome has an additional tab that opens for AVG Secure Search. Not sure what that is but I deleted all the search engine options in Chrome's settings (except google) and it still happens. I'll reboot to see if that's all it needs to take effect.

Thank you again.

Hi, this is my laptop and my wife was helping with this while i was a sleep. where do you see McAfee crashing. I checked event logs and did not see it stopping or am I missing something. I went ahead and uninstalled and re-installed McAfee.

I already had AVG uninstalled, I had a second tab open in my Chrome settings that opened to the search. I changed that now so only one opens when I start. I did that a while back for reasons I don't remember.

Do you see anything else in the logs?

Thanks,

All of these entries are from August 3, 2013 showing that McAfee and some other items were having issues.

How is the computer running now?

Are you still showing any sings of an infection?

Okay if you're comfortable that everything is okay we can finish up here.  I would keep an eye out on the Event Viewer to make sure you're not continuing to get errors logged.

Please click on START and type in COMBOFIX.EXE  /UNINSTALL

That will remove combofix and reset some default settings back to normal.

Please download OTC to your desktop.
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTC.exe

Double-click OTC to run it. (Vista and up users, please right click on OTC and select "Run as an Administrator")
Click on the CleanUp! button and follow the prompts.
(If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.)
You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process, choose Yes.
After the reboot all the tools we used should be gone.
Note: Some more recently created tools may not yet be removed by OTC. Feel free to manually delete any tools it leaves behind.

Any other programs or logs you can manually delete.
IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST, MBAR, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall.

Then read the following when you have time.

Best Practices for Safe Computing - Prevention of Malware Infection

If you have any other questions please let me know.
