Shield deluxe vs Mbam.

I have been using the shield deluxe for about 2 years now..

It has had a few issues along the way, including but not limited to:

Stopped functioning all together.

Updater not working.

Did not catch several "crippling" viruses and trojans.

Lags my pc to death if I try to run it at startup.

Constantly pops up false positives.

the online chat support was so rude he would not respond to me at all for 10 minutes..

just kept ignoring me on several occasions..

I had to trick him into talking to me by saying "ok it's done now".

guy made me waste 10 minutes because he didn't want to answer a simple question.

I ended up with 4 dll's I think today that crippled me within an hour.

So I went to online chat with shield deluxe.

They told me to use mabam then reinstall their product.

I found that a bit funny..

another antivirus maker telling me to use another antivirus program, to fix a problem.

I mean it was like part of their training material to refer me to you.

I said "I have these problems"

and within 30 seconds the response was "use mbam" lol..

I think I'll be using this when my license runs out this year on shield deluxe..

And by the way..

Thanks for making such a great product.

I'm 32 years old and on so many of the worst occasions I have ever run into (virtually all I can remember).

It has always been Mbam to save me.

I can't say thanks enough for that.

Cheers..

I'm glad MBAM helped you out, and although it's not a replacement for a good anti-virus program, it is a good supplement, as you've already proven through it's use. It's also light on resources in case you were wondering about the active protection module in the licensed version. And as far as tech support goes, both the forum here and the ticket based support system are both excellent and very speedy to respond. The developers are also dedicated to detecting and erradicating new malware as well as correcting false positives when they occur. In fact, if you'd like to see examples of what I'm talking about, just browse around the forum here and you'll see countless users (both of the paid version and the free one) being assisted with their problems quickly and free of charge.

I've read this a while back, didnt think I would be posting this info. Who would of thunk it :(

Even though they have a engine licensed contract with these different companies, there're many excellent security programs out there to use besides this one.

Some of the products they now rebrand:

The Shield Firewall - engine licensed from Comodo

Spyware 24x7 - engine licensed from Lavasoft

The Shield Deluxe 2008 6.0.2.621 - engine licensed from Kaspersky

Security Shield 2008 - engine licensed from F-Secure

Source

Comodo firewall has become bloated lately, eh. :(

I didn't know they were basically repackaging free software and selling it..

That's pretty shady in my opinion.

I'd love to ask for a recommendation on a rock solid antivirus.

But it seems every time I do, I get 30 different results from 30 different people lol.

I hope this becomes a full out anti virus some day..

that would make my decision much easier.

But thanks for the info, always good to know what your dealing with..

and thanks "again" for getting my pc running "again" :).

If I look at the people I know that use AV and know what they are doing 95% of them use KAV , NOD32 or Avira . You only get 30 different answers when you ask people that are not 100% up on the current state of things .

MBAM will always be used with AV because it makes it much harder for a single targeted attack to kill all of your security . MBAM also does not prioritize based on malware family , research is prioritized on what we see the AVs missing so by its very nature is links up with AV very well .
