Hi,

Can you make sure you are running latest database version? Update tab > Check for updates and allow it to install latest updates.

If still being detected, please zip and attach the detected files to this thread.

Thanks!

Hope it's not taboo to make an old thread relevant here.

Malwarebytes just listed PrimoPDF as malware today.  I only recently reinstalled PrimoPDF after upgrading my computer.  I downloaded the PrimoPDF install files from Cnet.  Attached is the file that Malwarebytes alerts on.  I am running database version v2014.03.26.05

This is a correct detection as this contains the PUP software Opencandy.  This isnt necessarilty Malware but Potentially Unwanted Programs . Opencandy is a software bundler normally that when you go to install Primopdf it gives you options on installing other software with it. That is what we are alerting on here.

see here from opencandy themselves

OpenCandy is a service that helps app developers earn money and keep their apps free-of-charge for you, the user. Developers earn money by recommending other select, free apps during the download and install process of their free app.

Ah, I see.  So it's safe to just "ignore" this alert.

Hmmm, many installers have that sort of add-on/toolbar gimmick now, but this is the first alert I've seen.  I guess Malwarebytes can't detect many of them?

Hmmm, well, I don't even remember all of the apps that attempt to install the Bing Bar during installation.  Yuck.

Anyway, thanks for your help.  This is a great category to detect, I guess the only thing that would make it better is an easier way for the Malwarebytes program to explain the PUP category to users.

Yes, I realize now that PUP is a category that is well documented on the website, but I purchase software such as Malwarebytes to protect me because I don't have the time or inclination to research all the software risks out there.  I'm grateful that Malwarebytes exists, but I expect it to be just a tiny bit easier to use without having to scour the web for an answer.  The ability for the Malwarebytes application to explain the PUP category would be great, and would probably eliminate a lot of the repetitive comments in these forums.  Just an observation.

We are working on this. Our aggressive PUP policy has been introduced since recently, so with the launch of our brand new MBAM 2, and everything else that comes with this, we are adding bit by bit on top, this to make everything easier and more clear for the user.

Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated!!!
