I've been struggling with a virus that seems to be hitting a lot of people lately. At first my entire computer became disabled, my internet was down, my sound didn't work, I couldn't update or run my anitvirus programs. I got the SVCHOST.EXE application error instruction at "0x75606eb5" referenced memory at "0x00000008". Every time I booted up, my taskbar would turn white briefly in an older windows style.

I managed to boot into safe mode and run Malwarebytes, Dr. Web, SAS, and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. All except SAS found and removed trojans. I was able to boot back into normal mode and recover my internet connection. I then updated and ran every antispyware program I could find includiing Spyware Doctor, A Squared, Spyware Terminator, Avira, Spybot, Malwarebytes, SAS. Spyware Terminator and Spyware Doctor both found and removed more trojans. The problem is I still get that white taskbar change on startup and my sound is out again.

I ran RootRepeal and Rootkibuster and found nothing suspicious. I did only scan files with RootRepeal though. I am considering running GMER. So I followed the instructions regarding posting logs and here they are:

Hi,

First off sometimes the damage created by infections can be somewhat PITA to sort out so sometimes symptons persist but the infection is no more.In extreme cases the only full recovery is a full restore and reformat of the computer but hopefully we will try to avoid that option.

Some changes can be undone by running a repair install of the OS so do you have the OS install disk handy for this computer ?

But first inorder to see if you still have any malware active on the machine we need to run deeper diagnostic tools so please do the following.

STEP 01

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading ComboFix to your
DESKTOP
:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

NOTE!!:
You must save and run
ComboFix.exe
on your DESKTOP and not from any other folder.
Also,
DO NOT
click the mouse or launch any other applications while this is running or it may stall the program

Additional links to download the tool:

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe' rel="external nofollow">

Note:
The
Windows Recovery Console
will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click
    Yes
to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

  • Please post the
    C:\ComboFix.txt
    along with a
    new HijackThis log
so we may continue cleaning the system.

No problem,

There is quite a bit of work to be done to your PC to restore it but if you can follow instructions explicitly and have a little patience i believe we can get your computer sorted without the need for the dreaded R&R :D

Hi, I've decided to go ahead and reform for peace of mind.

Thanks
