Cannot schedual automatic scan - Admin. acct. startup prob.

Recommended Posts

I have two accounts on my computer an Admin. acct, and a User acct.  Please note I am sorry if this explanation is long. All added software works perfectly on both accts. except MBAM and only on the Admin. acct.. MBAM works perfectly on the user acct.. All added software was installed via the user acct.. Usually when installing I must input my Admin. password, this is not a problem because both accts. are me.

When I double click on MBAM in Admin. acct. a dialog box opens that states do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this program to make changes to this computer.  Prog. name: MBAM, verified publisher : malwarebytes corp. etc.

yes or no  (below this box I can change when these notifications appear however changing would allow other apps and software to make changes without notification) .If I click yes MBAM opens and I can schedule a scan. The schedualed scan never runs. Every time I double click on MBAM in Admin. acct. the same dialog box opens. I do not have this happen with any other software or browser.

Hi, davidmg: :)

It's normal to get a Windows User Account Control (UAC) prompt when opening the MBAM scanner/GUI -- MBAM needs that level of permissions to run properly.

Please follow the directions below to run a few tools that will provide the staff and expert members with some basic information in order to troubleshoot.

Then, please post back with the following logs as attachments to your next reply:

  • Checkresults.txt from mbam-check
  • A couple of protection logs, if you have them
  • DDS.txt from DDS
  • Attach.txt from DDS

Thanks!

P.S. FWIW, this post really belongs better in the MBAM Help section >>HERE<< (the mods will probably move it there). ;)

-------------------------------------------------

Step 1 -- Create an mbam-check log:

Download mbam-check.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop.
Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file.
Please attach to your next reply the CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop.

Then, if you can, please also upload your 3 most recent Protection module logs:

In Windows XP, these logs are located in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs
In Windows Vista/7/8, these logs are located in: C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs

Step 2 -- Run DDS and create 2 logs:

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once it is downloaded, you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  •
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
    • Save both reports to your desktop
    • Please attach both of the following logs to your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
--->You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Also have Chrome and IE.

Hi, davidmg: :)

Were you able to run DDS and mbam-check?

If so, to attach the 3 logs (DDS.txt, attach.txt and checkresults.txt), please click the "More Reply Options" at the bottom right of the reply window.

Then, look for the paperclip in the bottom left of the page, browse to the saved files and attach them (you'll need to attach them 1 at a time, but they can all be attached to one reply).

If not, then please tell us what problems you had trying to run the tools.

>>>>Alternatively, since you are a paid user of MBAM PRO, you may wish instead to open a ticket directly with the help desk?

They can be reached by completing this web form here: Contact Consumer Report

(It would be helpful if you could include a link back to this forum thread when you submit the ticket; here is the link to copy/paste into your request:)

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=129801

As for the protection logs, here is the file path for them in Win8:

In Windows Vista/7/8, these logs are located in: C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs

However, if you are having trouble locating them, just skip them for now and please post back with the DDS and mbam-check logs, for starters. :)

Thanks,

daledoc1

Hi daledoc1,

I have the logs before I post them, I do not want to waste your time. I checked the MBAM log and an automatic scan is running every day at 3 am.

This all I needed to know, I believe everything is fine. Sorry if I have already wasted your time. I will post the results if you tell me to.
