File downloading automatically/without permission.

Recommended Posts

Hi. I recently bought a brand new laptop. I've had it for about 3 weeks.

I noticed the problem that I'm about to describe yesterday. And then again today, 3 times so far.

I use Google Chrome as my browser. The issue is this. I'll be browsing, reading the news or something else that has nothing to do with downloading files or anything. And I notice at the bottom left Chrome telling me that a file called setup.exe is downloading, and then (about a second later), that it has downloaded.

I've been deleting the downloaded setup.exe file each time. Once, out of curiosity, I ran it and it asked me to install Delta Search Toolbar or something. I closed the installation window and deleted the setup file.

This is from Chrome's Download history:

For the last link, "4ac" goes after "7fdd", where the ellipses are.

I ran a quick, then a full scan in Malwarebytes and nothing turned up. I have AVG as my antivirus and it has shown nothing lately. The only program that I have downoaded lately is Tether (tether.com), which lets you tether from your phone. I've used the program in the past on other computers with no problem and all of its reviews etc. seem legit.

I've had no other symptoms of a virus or malware or anything of the sort. This is such an odd little problem. Any thoughts?
