Security Center

Recommended Posts

Well Moms computer get infected and after following the instructions here I was able to disenfect it.  The problem I am having now is Security Center will not run on her computer, can not find it in services.msc.  The protection programs I installed for her (dumped the free mcaffee ATT offered her) are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO and System Mechanic Pro.  Any suggestions as I have searched the forums here and elsewhere.

Thank you for your time

Pall

If the computer is in that bad of shape then I highly recommend you not try to self medicate it as you can potentially make things worse.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks

i checked the link that pallanon listed and found the post he mentioned ...

the link leads to a page of download "drop in" registry entries ... this may be ok but not to be used by a novice without help .

the page itself is full of advertisements for "registry fixer" , driver update and speed up/clean out programs (etc) .

(in one instance a linked product page looks rather sketchy/bogus)

do not download or use these types of programs .

uuuggghhh ... <_<

From what I saw, it was a simple set of commands to reset the Firewall in Vista and above...

netsh advfirewall reset
net start mpsdrv
net start bfe
net start mpssvc
regsvr32 firewallapi.dll

and ...

http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/misc-registry-fixes-for-windows-7-xp-vista/

Which actually has some good and handy prefab REG file fixes.  Not unlike Kelly's Korner.
