Malwarebytes will not open

Recommended Posts

Hello, over the last several days whenever I attempt to open Malwarebytes I receive the message "Runtime error 339: component ieframe.dll or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

I'm running Vista and AVG 2013. At first I suspected it may be a virus so I ran in safe mode and followed descriptions of other posts in this forum as well as the malware removal forum. Unfortunately none have fixed the issue. AVG did not pick up any virus nor did Spybot. Per advise from other threads I've tried running Malwarebytes in Chameleon and removing and re-installing Malwarebytes however I received the same error message. I tried removing and re-installing internet explorer 9 however it does not appear in the uninstall list.

I've run Roguekiller and TDSSkiller and neither found anything on my system. I also ran Malwarebytes anti-rootkit and once again nothing. System restore does not work either as the error began prior to the last restore point as I've been slowly trying to resolve this for almost a week.

I'm running around in circles at this point.

Any suggestions?

Hello and :welcome:

Be careful with running steps that are outlined in the Malware removal section as a lot of those steps are specifically written for the computer that the helper is working with.... That being said, lets see if we can take a look under the hood per say and see if we can tell what is going on.

Please run the tools below and ATTACH (do not copy and paste) the logs so someone can better assist you.

Please post an mbam-check log:

Create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please attach the CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next reply
Next:

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt

You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Thanks for providing those logs....

There is quite a lot of stuff going on with this computer including some corruption to the C: partition. This could be due to a failing hard drive. I suggest you run a chkdsk and also a hard drive diagnostics using tools from the hard drive manufacture.

Below are instructions for running a chkdsk utility... We can help you with instructions for running a hard drive diagnostics if need be, but I recommend you have an expert guide you through the whole process and they can also isolate any possibility that it is malware related as well....

1. Run a chkdsk first

Please try the following. It should take at least 10 minutes to a couple of hours depending on the speed of your computer.

You may have corrupted files on your disk. Please try running the following.

First close ALL Applications as this routine will automatically restart your computer.

Click on START - RUN and copy / paste the following entry into the box and click OK

CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30
2. To verify your not infected.

To eliminate the possibility of being infected, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Thank you
