New MB Pro Owner! (Resources?)

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Well, I'm now a Malwarebytes Pro owner! I hope you can understand that I will only be able to dedicate a percentage of time each day to reading the manual because like most of you, I have a job and that job has a deadline.

In fact, I write manuals and my deadline for the present manual I'm working on was three days ago. But because of a glitch in the program of the "powers that be", I've had a reprieve and need to take advantage of it.

That said, I was wondering if you could tell me how hard Malwarebytes Pro will be on my computer's resources if I allowed it to run in real time while I'm doing what I do.

What I do involves running Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 12, Adobe Acrobat XI, Microsoft Office 2010 Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended, and at least two or three browser pages opened in Google Chrome and all of them pretty much simultaneously.

Obviously, all that puts a dent in the 16 GB of RAM I have and I was wondering if Malwarebytes Pro would be a significant resource user. I think I can adjust the real time scan by having it exclude many of the programs I have listed above, is that right?

Thank you, Rich

It just occurred to me that I may already have Real-Time Protection turned on. So I went to try to turn it off and realized that I may not be able to. I ran a search in the help file manual but all it states is what real-time protection does, not how to turn it on or off.

So… How do I turn it on or off?

Thanks, Rich

Hello and :welcome:

Thanks for your purchase....

The real-time protection should not use too much resources on the computer you mentioned, at least not enough to warrant you to disable it.

That being said, if you want to disable protection, you can just Right Click on the tray icon and uncheck it from there.

You can also open the Malwarebytes Program and go to the Protection tab and uncheck it from there as well.

Thank You! I guess what I'm going to do is allow Malwarebytes Pro to run and do its thing and just see what happens in the next few days.

But are the first two items above the "Protection Enabled" green flag, (In the "Protection" tab), the two items that can turn on/off the program? That is, if I uncheck those two and the green flag goes red, have I effectively turned off Malwarebytes?

Or do I have to uncheck everything in that panel if I wanted to do it that way?

Thanks again, Rich

By the way, I can't figure out how to go back and edit a post I had just posted in this website, LOL.

Anyway, I meant to say that my last question was more out of curiosity and using the system tray method as you suggested is certainly what I would do. I'm just curious about that other method.

Thank you, Rich

 Hi,

Sorry to pop in on this topic.

@wingclip you can enable/disable protection by opening malwarebytes from either desktop shortcut or start>all programs>malwarebytes then go to protection tab and select/deselect protection.

Thank you Sir,
But that's the question; where in the protection tab section do you select or deselect to turn the protection on or off?

You see what I mean? That's why I was asking if the two items just above the "protection enabled" flag are the two that I would check or uncheck?

Those two items are; "Enable Filesystem Protection" and "Enable Malicious Website Blocking". Looking at it again, it would seem that those two items cover pretty much all the protection that Malwarebytes offers.

So I guess if I did uncheck both of those I would technically be turning off Malwarebytes. But as I said, I was simply curious regarding that point.

The easiest way I can see turning off Malwarebytes is to go to the system tray, right-click on the Malwarebytes icon, And Then Click "Exit".
Thank you, Rich :)

Thank you daldoc1,

I did indeed find the Knowledge Base section and that looks like one of the fastest ways I can learn and understand Malwarebytes better. I didn't know about the videos and I'll definitely be using those to help cut down some learning time.

Thanks again, Rich

If you want to completely disable every single component of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, including the scheduler, then simply right-click on the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware tray icon and choose Exit.

You should also refer to the Help file included with the product. It's actually quite comprehensive.

Thank you, but as you can see in the posts, we've already covered that and as I said, this was a question out of nothing but curiosity, but thanks again.
