Infected with Trojan Horse Generic29.adje

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm here because this Trojan virus I've recently got has defied any of my normal methods for removal (avg, mbam, and greatis regrun reanimator). In fact since I've tried the number of detected infections has increased, so I'm afraid that this is something far outside my limited knowledge in its persistence.

Having read over another similar topic from this section of the forums,
http://forums.malwar...howtopic=126439
its notable that this case is nearly identical to mine, but I use Internet explorer 10 instead of firefox.
I wanted to get an informed opinion on what steps to take since it seems very important to do things in a particular order to not cause further damage since I've already underestimated this once already. I won't be doing anything else on this computer until I can be rid of this so I can respond asap and not risk any information being delivered to the wrong hands (been filling out applications). Thank you for your time, and I anxiously await reply. aaand umm, I also need to know how to do a line break. never used ip.board forums and couldn't find out anywhere. *sigh*

Thank you for replying! You have my full attention, absolutely. I have not done anything else (except what's asked in your post) since I posted, but I did run a temporary file cleaner before I tried here if that's something you would need to know. I won't do that anymore. Uninstalled the P2P programs I knew of Utorrent, and Adobe Reader. As for performance the computer hasn't slowed down noticeably since infection, still starts up smoothly, and internet hasn't changed as well. avg is the only anti-virus detecting the problem, and only while connected to the internet will it tell me its found a threat but doesn't removed it because its denied access. Here are my logs: DDS (Ver_2012-11-20.01) - NTFS_AMD64

Step 1

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
Step 2

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt as well.
Step 3
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to Update tab and select Check for Updates. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Go to Scanner tab and select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Step 4

  • Download on the desktop RogueKiller
  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe

Okay, so I did steps 1-3 and that worked out. After running the first two tools, mbam was able to find a trojan0acess virus and removed it, And those first two seemed to remove a lot of bad registry keys as well. I can recognize my computer has boosted in speed a little, and avg has stopped giving me the "threat found" warnings so far. I did run into a problem with step 4 though I have to ask about. I've downloaded Roguekiller in the same way I did the others but it won't let me move it to my desktop because it requires administrative permission. No other files are doing this and I can't quite figure out why. I'm on my administrative account (my only one), yet when I try to move RK it asks permission, then I click continue with admin authority, but still just doesn't do it and asks to "try again?" I've checked the security setting for the file and it doesn't have anything on the "do not allow" side ticked, so I would assume it should be allowed like the others ive used up to this point with same settings. Anti-virus is still deactivated too. Here are the first three logs:

I'm afraid I have bad news.

One or more of the identified infections is a rootkit. Rootkits are very dangerous because they use advanced techniques (backdoors) as a means of accessing a computer system that bypasses security mechanisms and steal sensitive information which they send back to the hacker. Many rootkits can hook into the Windows 32-bit kernel, and patch several APIs to hide new registry keys and files they install. Remote attackers use backdoor Trojans and rootkits as part of an exploit to gain unauthorized access to a computer and take control of it without your knowledge.

I suggest you disconnect this computer from the Internet immediately you finish reading this post.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the computer, or if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, your computer is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted.

Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the Operating System.

Visit the following sites for more information on Internet theft and when to reformat!

Help: I Got Hacked. Now What Do I Do?

Help: I Got Hacked. Now What Do I Do? Part II

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

Should you decide not to follow that advice, we will of course do our best to clean the computer of any infections that we can see but, as I already stated, we can in no way guarantee it to be trustworthy.

If you have any questions before making a final decision, please feel free to ask.

Instructions how to format and reinstall Windows can be found here

Okay, at least I don't do any banking or anything like that from this laptop. Can other computers on my network be accessed through this one? or is only information on this one in danger? any further advice to further rid the malicious files would still be greatly appreciated, since I cannot re-Install windows right now. Even if its just a chance to restore it to clean for a moment long enough to forever disable internet on it, I'm at your instruction. Thank you very much for helping me up to this point, you've been great help.

I think that this machine is the problem.

Step 1

Please download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then click on Change parameters.

  • Put a checkmark beside loaded modules.

  • A reboot will be needed to apply the changes. Do it.
  • TDSSKiller will launch automatically after the reboot. Also your computer may seem very slow and unusable. This is normal. Give it enough time to load your background programs.
  • Then click on Change parameters in TDSSKiller.
  • Check all boxes then click OK.

  • Click the Start Scan button.

  • The scan should take no longer than 2 minutes.
  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.

Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.

  • A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
Step 2

Note: Please do not run this tool without special supervision and instructions of someone authorized to do so. Otherwise, you could end up with serious problems. For more details, read this article: ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Note: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.

In your next reply, post the following log files:

  • TDSSKiller log
  • ComboFix log
