Had a Google redirect - want to make sure I'm okay now

Recommended Posts

I had a google redirect on sunday. Finally got malwarebytes Anti-Malware to run and ran it a few times to clean everything up.

Google is not redirecting but I just wanted to make sure I got all of the malware. Please let me know if there's anything I need to do or if I'm clean for now. I did purchase the Malwarebytes and it's sitting in the system tray.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have attached the latest log from malwarebytes and Hijack This.

I did start an earlier message

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12781

But I thought I would post another one with better and more detailed information.

On sunday, whenever I tried to do a search on google in either firefox and internet explorer I was redirected to an ad site.

I was able to download and install malwarebytes, but I had to rename it to get it to run.

I just want to make sure I got all the rootkit and trojan. When you get the chance please review to make sure it's all gone.

I did purchase the version of malwarebytes that starts automatically with windows.

I did have mbam ignore the adware.coupons in the scans yesterday. I do use that.

Here's the first log from mbam

I don't see anything strange anymore in your logs. One thing though.. Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java™ 6 Update 5

[*]Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

[*]Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

[*]Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

[*]Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Glad I could help. :(

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
