This may be a new one for you. I've got this resilient problem. I was using P2P and all of the sudden my display settings were screwed up. The icons on my desktop are huge and no matter what I do to reset the settings, they always go back to this enormous setting. Went into ssafe mode, cleaned up computer and pretty much concluded that this O23 Atievxx.exe file is the culprit. Can't get rid rid of it either. Tried hijackthis and fileassasin with no luck. Hijackthis log is below. No matter what I hit it with, the damn thing stays and my intended setting don't take. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you removed O23 - Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe with hijackthis there should be a copy of it in the Backups folder. Open hijackthis, do a scan, click the Config button, select Backups and Restore the items that were backed up.

Reboot your computer.

Post back a new Hijackthis log and let us know if your display problems are fixed.

Thank you for your help. I went to Support.Dell and downloaded the driver for my graphics card. Unfortunately, the problem remains. As I mentioned, I cannot delete this 023 file. Every time I tried to delete it with either FileAssasin or HijackThis, the file would reappear after another scan. Doesn't that sound suspect? One other piece of info, this computer is shared by two users. When we log onto one, the desktop actually looks normal for about 30 seconds, then goes black, then comes back with enormous icons. Even the browser screen is enormous. I can reset the settings in the control panel and the screen goes back to normal, but the settings do not apply whenever computer is restarted. The problem is less pronounced on the other user, but again the icons are larger than normal. I know the basics about troubleshooting, but this one is out of my league. I really appreciate your help.

We purchased the computer back in '03. I'm in process of looking for software that came with the computer. Tried the ATI website, went to download software package for ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 and a dialog box opened during installation that said came up Video Driver not found and another dialog box stated Try to setup with a standard VGA driver. Not sure what any of this means.

Some Progress! You're definitely in the right direction. I reloaded driver, now the sign in page is normal and the user with the less larger icons is normal. Still have a problem with the other user that had the largest icons though. Same thing, starts up for about 30 seconds as normal looking, then screen goes black and desktop reappears with enormous icons and taskbar. Problem is contained to just this user for now. But this is how is started, then went to sign on page, then to other user. Could I try uninstalling driver, then reinstall from resource CD? Also, just in case, I post logfile below.

Completely back-fired. I loaded it, then restarted computer, then went into problem user, not only were the icon enormous, but the problem spread straight through the sign in page and the other user. I'm back to square one. What about uninstalling and re-installing?
