How to uninstall combofix? Tried everything.

Recommended Posts

hello and thank you in advance. I hope I'm in the right forum.. This is where several threads I read relating to combofix were. First.. I'm sorry I'm another idiot that has to bother you. I did the "don't ever do". I had a problem and downloaded combofix. I don't even remember what was happening at that point, however, the problem was solved. Everything seems to be fine and I am happy for this. I don't know if I did the install correctly though. It is on my desktop, but I'm worried I may have dragged it there instead of downloading it there directly. I don't know.. sorry.. I can't remember. I DID NOT rename it as combo-fix. I have an HP CQ60 notebook, windows 7 home premium, 64 bit. My issue: 1) I can't delete combofix 2) A folder was created in Local Disk (C:)>combofix. Inside is an application (handle64 "Handle viewer Sysinternals). A) I've tried about 3 different things to delete combofix including this :

(Click Start, then click Run>In the text box that opens, type or copy/paste ComboFix /uninstall and then click OK.) All that happens as far as I can tell is combofix just goes through another complete run.. it does not delete. I also have to ask.. is it advised that combofix is deleted once used or do some users just leave it on the desktop with no concerns? B) What is that in the combofix folder, and what should I do with it? Thank you so much for your patience and help. I'm having trouble with the format of this post.. I can't press enter and put spaces to make paragraphs. And sorry again you have to help another fool. I won't do anything like this again ( even though it was a success) without reading EVERYTHING fully. Charles z.

thank u gringo.. I tried that. In just about 15 seconds a little pop up appears that shows "Done". That's all I see that happens. I'm not prompted to do anything and no other info appears and combofix still sits on the desktop. I wanted to mention the 15 seconds because it really is just about that.. if that long.. I was thinking it's not even trying to uninstall because I figure nothing can happen that quickly. I will keep trying anything else you can suggest. Thank you.

I wanted to add.. for what it may be worth.. when I click the combofix icon and click properties I get: Type of file: Application (exe.) - Description: Combofix NSIS Installer (This is the only combofix related item on my computer that I can find). I also tried ( from a post I read on Bleeping Computer ) typing "combofix /uninstall" from the search window. It shows an icon for the uninstaller will show. I don't get that. Just a blank. Just in case, here is where I was: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix#uninstall

well... uh.. errr.. I was able to drag it into the trash.. This means that is just the installer on my desktop and somehow the program was already deleted.. even though I never got any type of message saying it was ever attempting to delete? If that is so.. that is fine with me I tell u. If you are going to answer yes.. Is there any type of deeper "checking" I can do to make sure all combofix "related" items are gone? And.. what about that folder it made with (handle64 "Handle viewer Sysinternals) inside? Thank u.. I'm starting to feel a bit better here.. appreciate it..

Greetings

I have not heard from you in a couple of days so I am coming by to check on you to see if you are having problems or you just need some more time.

Also to remind you that it is very important that we finish the process completely so as to not get reinfected. I will let you know when we are complete and I will ask to remove our tools

Gringo
