Hey, I am trying to run a Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit scan on my computer, but I get a message saying "The system volume seems inaccessible or encrypted. Scan can't continue." The program updates fine and everything goes well until I try to run the scan and I get that error message.

No, I don't think I am using any encryption. I feel like I am infected, but whenever I run a scan with the regular malwarebytes, it doesn't find anything. I have gotten a blue screen multiple times and my computer then shuts down. My computer will also sometimes freeze up while shutting down, and not shut down no matter how long I wait. I feel like these things shouldn't be happening on a computer that supposedly doesn't have any virus. I wanted to try and use the rootkit program to see if it could find it.

Okay let me have you run some scans and post the logs and we'll see what we can find for you.

Please create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post, instead please attach the log CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next post

Next, Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop



Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

    When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
    You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Well I'm not seeing any specific infection but your Event Logs do show some issues of concern that could be software related or possibly hardware related.

I see you have been running some tools possibly on your own that are designed for malware removal.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Once they're done and have given you a clean bill of health if you're still having issues then come back here and we'll look at some other things but for now I thinks its best to rule out any infections.
