WebSearch / Rapidgator Malware

Recommended Posts

Dear Forum,

A few weeks back I tried to download a mod for a pcgame from Rapidgator, and the site installed a downloadmanager instead that came with a few other programs. It happened pretty quickly and I couldn't stop it, so I did my best to uninstall it all, leaving no traces except for a strange addon in firefox called "WebSearch".

After that I ran a full system scan with malware bytes, finding nothing. I uninstalled everything that sounded even remotely close to WebSearch, reset the browser, and that should have been the end of it.

After that, I sporadically faced network faults.

I can't connect to any online gaming servers (Neither the battle.net servers, nor any flashgames that are based on constantly streaming data to other players) nor can I access video streaming websites like allmyvideos, gorrilavidz etc.

The Starcraft support already told me to fix my network drivers, which I did, but it didn't help.

I also made the windows/sys32/drivers/etc/host file accessible to check for any unwanted ips, but there aren't any.

Help would be so much appreciated, I'm at the end of my wisdom!

Ps.: The connection to streaming websites and gamign servers sporadically works for a couple of hours every day, usually from 17:00 to 20:00. I contacted my provider, who couldn't find anything wrong.

I also checked my modem for configurations, but I got the same settings as every other pc in the home network. The others do not face complications.
