Desktop windows manager keeps crashing. Affecting background/applicastions

Hi,

So something happened over the weekend and now my desktop windows manager (dwm.exe) crashes every 10 seconds and disables the Aero theme.

Can i get some suggestions on a fix? i did a system restore and its still acting weird.

The only suggestion I can offer is to try updating/reinstalling the drivers for your graphics card. A few common GPU vendors' support pages:

NVIDIA

i did another system restore and it worked for the time being but i got another error again. could it be a driver issue?

Yes, it certainly could be. Did you try updating your drivers for your graphics card yet as suggested?

the nvidia update is what caused this in the first place i believe. i will try tonight. i had the worst of it with the new drivers.

i will try a clean install tonight

Ah, I see. If the latest driver doesn't work, try downloading the previous version you had installed that didn't have this problem. Sometimes if you find a driver that works well, it's best to stick with it as long as it's not buggy.

sorry it took me so long to respond.

i have a new development. this all started b/c i am having trouble with Far Cry 3 and medieval 2 total war. i think an error occured when installing DX9 on MII. when i was trying to run DXdaig for the support specialist, it said that it encountered an error and crashed but i can continue to run it.

i think something is faulty with Direct X.

i tried to repair it myself but i wanted to know if there is a way to wipe DX and re-install it to clean this mess.

ALL of my problems happened when i was trying to install Medival 2 and aborted the Dx9 installation thinking i had a better version.

Try updating your DirectX via this page. That should update all of the DirectX 9 components on your system and should hopefully correct the problems caused by that old version installing with the game.
