Persistent SpywareRemover2009 pop-ups - HJT log

Recommended Posts

I have been overloaded with pop-ups for the past few days that are making life difficult on the PC.

Running McAfee scan (full) and a quick cleanup slowed the problem down somewhat. Malwarebytes (MBAM), Spybot S&D, Trend Micro and a couple others all failed to detect/remove it. Superantispyware seems to have put a dent in it - it now pops up once avery 10 minutes instead of every 45 seconds and I can now stop it from doing anything and close it whereas before the windows would just pile up as they opened.

There are four pages that seem to be connected to this although they all seem to funnel to SpywareRemover2009 which is a known fake spyware virus (right?).

The 4 pop ups I keep getting hammered with are -

removespywarethreats.com

desktoprepaipackage.com

webprotectionread.com

online-antimalware-scanner.com

I am running XP SP2 and use IE.

I also have McAfee Anti-Virus.

Here is the HJT Log:

Yesterday all on thier own the pop-ups stopped... then for the heck of it I ran MBAM again and it did find a couple items that had a reference to Spywareremover2009 in them. So I thought maybe it was over with, and I was problem free for about 12 hours which has not happened in over a week since it started.

But then today when I turned the PC on they are back.....

So I still need some help.

Hi,

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • In case you already used MBAM previously, please update it before proceeding with the scan. To do this, click the "Update" tab and click the "Check For updates" button.
  • Once the program has loaded and updates were downloaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
