It’s Official: Microsoft’s Windows Blue Is Coming Later This Year

Microsoft just confirmed that the successor to Windows 8 will roll out later this year, that it’s sold a whole lot more Windows 8 licenses than when we last checked in, and that the largely empty Windows Stores are finally getting more than just window dressing.

The new version of Windows is codenamed Windows Blue, and is expected to essentially be an iterative update (think: Windows 8.1, not Windows 9). Microsoft says it will let the company “respond to the customer feedback that we’ve been closely listening to since the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT.” Translation: We know you’re not super happy and we’re going to make it better. (More...)

Microsoft will make available to anyone who has Windows 8 a preview of Windows Blue in June.

That's according to Julie Larson-Green, the head of Windows engineering, who made those remarks during the Wired Business Conference on May 7.

Well, THAT didn't take long!

This probably breaks the previous record for the Vista mea culpa.

(And it appears to be only a partial fix -- a start BUTTON without a start MENU?!?!?! What the heck?!?!?!)

OTOH, if history is any cause for guarded optimism, M$ gets it "right" approximately EVERY OTHER OS.

So, perhaps Blue/9/whatever will be decent.

Hehe, I doubt it. They're still trying to foist what is clearly a UI designed for tablets onto users of keyboards and mice. At this point I'd be happier if they just made a separate version of Windows that didn't have Metro. They can't seem to understand users like me at all.
