w32/blocker-based!maximus

My mate has a major problem with his PC. AVG didn't pick up this threat, his crappy [his own words] NTL bit of kit did. It's a 'w32/blocker-based!maximus'; apparently it's been on his PC for quite a while. I advised him to get m'bytes ages ago, but he decided to ignore the advice... Ha!

This 'w32/blocker-based!maximus' keeps rebooting his PC. He is now unable to be on the internet for long as his system reboots all the time. He is a rare vinyl seller on eBay and this is murdering his business.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Cheers,

Agrippa (Maximus)

Addendum: my mate would be writing this himself, but he is selling CDs & vinyl on his market stall.
