Back up Question

I see your backup program and I quit placing photos on my computer because I am forever getting messed up and having to redo my computer. I want to know if that back up also backs up your drivers and or acutal programs, and with the recent loss of SP3 , what happens there? I still need SP3 and have to thank Tom for all his help.

Hi

It can yes, but it is not that kind of solution. Doing so does not actually reinstall or restore the programs to their previous state. What you you are referring to is an imaging program that clones your hard drive to a backup source in case of a hardware or software issue. You may wish to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 as they come with that built in or use a free product like Macrium Reflect Free. Malwarebytes' secure backup is intended to store your important files off site that way you always have them as they are stored on reliable backup servers. It is not intended to reinstall or restore programs. Likely it won't work due to permission issues or the programs may not work at all as it doesn't backup the registry.

I wonder if one could use a tool such as Macrium Reflect Free to create an image of the drive and MBR and then backup the image file itself to the cloud using Malwarebytes Secure Backup. Doing so would mean if the system died, you could download the image from a working PC, copy it to an external drive or burn it to disc(s) and use Marcium to restore the drive using the images you downloaded from the cloud.

Don't install SP3 again. If you want it, save it on a drive you always have access to.

Yes you can create and store the image like that Samuel.

I agree with Chris, expensive way to store a PC image.

Cheapest, easiest is either the DVD method that Chris said or purchase an external USB drive and create an image of the drive using software that supports the new 4K advanced format drives (all drives that ship now days regardless of size use this type of drive)

That is not the same though as backing up your user data. You should also backup your user data on a frequent basis and that is what Malwarebytes Secure Backup is for.

Assuming you have or purchase a Western Digital USB drive you should be able to use this software to assist in creating a disk image.

Certainly not something that is needed for backing up but if replacing a drive or giving your computer to someone else this article may be of use as well.

I have 3 external drives which I use for backups, including backup images. I have my primary drive partitioned so my OS drive is actually only around 60GB, so if that's all I was using it for, I could use the 100GB Malwarebytes Secure Backup option and that would be plenty (as long as I deleted each existing backup as I created/uploaded new ones).

Not sure how that link has anything to do with your question. You can download and save Service Pack 3 for Windows XP using the link that DarkSnakeKobra provided you.

If you're wanting to upgrade XP to Windows 7 then you cannot do an upgrade from Windows XP. You need to backup your data and then basically format the drive and install Windows 7

Please provide more information on what it is you're wanting to do please.

Why would you need SP2? You should be able to install SP3 over any Windows XP installation.

The System requirements for installing SP3

Supported operating systems: Windows XP Home Edition , Windows XP Professional Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 2

But if for whatever reason you want SP2 it can be downloaded from here: Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

SP3 can be downloaded from here: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

Then save the downloaded file to your hard drive and you can run it any time you like eve years from now if you wanted to.

Again I would ask what is the bigger picture here? What is it you're trying to accomplish so that we can provide you with better or more concise information.

no , I was trying to get a download from Windows and it would not work, I had a CD for SP2 but apparently that was not enough, because I found a manual download and it denied me , it said I did not have SP3 . When I run Hijack this it says I do now have SP 3, but if I try to get other downloads again I get the message I don't have those. I have Framework 1.1, I think and downloaded Framework 2 and I think I made a big mess ,,there are now files or folder where my computer never knew there was a realm , like star wars . I did a bad job and now will just use it that way for now. If I had the terms if would explain it better. those that you posted are the ones I used , thank you . It is more of a matter now of knowing how to do it.
