Applications keep minimizing or losing focus

Recommended Posts

Whenever I am using an application, at random intervals it seems to lose focus if it's windowed, or minimize if its fullscreen. It even happens with fullscreen applications that won't normally minimize. It gets rather annoying, because most of the ones I use won't open back up afterwards, so I have to close it and start it again. I have tried deleting all tasks in the task scheduler, ending all unneeded processes, did a virus scan with 2 different antiviruses, and only letting windows run certain programs at startup. None of it worked. On top of that, occasionally an odd sound plays on my computer which is also rather annoying. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

Hello and :welcome:

Lets see if we can figure out what's going on, but to do that we need to get a few logs....

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

  • Root Admin

The computer shows signs of being infected.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

You will need to either fully disable or uninstall any Peer2Peer software such as BitTorrent or others while a helper is assisting you. Failure to do so will result in your topic being closed and no further assistance being offered.

So go ahead and open a new topic asking for help and attach those same log files to your new post in the HJT forum.

Thanks
