Vendor column in Quarantine list is misleading

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, the Vendor column in the Quarantine list (tab) is very misleading. It includes a prefix such as PUP, PUM, P2P, Backdoor. These are coded assigned by MBAM, not part of the threat name. The Vendor column/field should be split into two separate fields: Type and Name. The Type field would show the code (PUP, PUM, etc.). The Name field (which I prefer to Vendor, which is also misleading), would show the threat name.

My Quarantine tab currently shows:

Vendor
PUP.Blabbers
Backdoor.HMCPol.Gen
Backdoor.Agent.PGen
Backdoor.HMCPol.Gen

I suggest that it would be much clearer if displayed as:

Type Name
PUP Blabbers
Backdoor HMCPol.Gen
Backdoor Agent.PGen
Backdoor HMCPol.Gen

Unfortunately currently the 'Vendor' string used by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to identify threats is a single item, including descriptive terms and categorizations such as PUP, Trojan and Backdoor etc.

Changing it so that those identifiers are separated from the thread/vendor name itself would require a rewrite of the entire database as well as a rewrite of how the software interprets them.

I like the idea myself and will pass it along as a feature request to the developers.
