Welcome to Modern America

I wouldn't attribute it to "Modern America".

I am sure those in the 18th century experienced society and felt the same way.

It was President Abraham Lincoln who wrote in the 19th century...

“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

Interesting...

It is an expression I was taught to be ascribed to Lincoln. It also makes sense if you examine the political aspects of such an expression vs. P.T. Barnum who was known for being a stoic and his finding ways to separate one from one's money. Now Samuel Clemons, he is a viable alternative source. His writing and narrations made him the "pop star" of his day. I can see his quotes being purloined.

Personally I'll stick with Lincoln as the author. :P
