Trojan.Agent userinit.exe

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had a virus / trojan last week and I followed the instructions and was able to remove most of it.

I have run Ad-Aware, Spyware Terminator. SpyBot, SuperAntiSpyware, McAfee and Malwares Anti-Malware

I ran all of these once to clear it and rebooted and ran them again. Only Malwares Anti-Malware seems to be with these 2 entries

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: system32\userinit.exe -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Really appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading ComboFix to your
DESKTOP
:
how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

NOTE!!:

You must save and run
ComboFix.exe
on your DESKTOP and not from any other folder.

Also,
DO NOT
click the mouse or launch any other applications while this is running or it may stall the program

Additional links to download the tool:

Note:

The
Windows Recovery Console
will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click
    Yes
to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

  • Please post the
    C:\ComboFix.txt
    along with a
    new HijackThis log
so we may continue cleaning the system.

Please see the link how-to-use-combofix

It might be a good idea to print out that page.

It's kind of a catch 22 meaning that you need to disable your Anti-Virus to run the tool, but you are open to more potential attack if you disable it while being connected to the Internet. If you are connected then Combofix can automatically install it for you.

Hi,

Mcafee updates made it catch an trojan ( Generic.dx ) in userinit.exe and when I ran MAM again, it does not find that Registry Items infected.

I ran SuperAntiSpyware and it complains about Rootkit.TDSServ.

I am not sure if this is a false scare since none of the other tools complain about this.

Please advise.

Thanks!

I would like to remove the entries against TDSserv which SuperAntiSpyware is complaining about.

BTW I have one more question. I am always confused on how many Anti spyware, Anti-virus software / checks to keep running. Please suggest.

Thanks!

Well since MBAM is not reporting them then use SAS to remove them.

If you want you can continue as asked and run the Combofix and I'll take a look at that and see if I see anything else left over.

As for what and how much to run it really changes from user to user as we all use our computers a bit differently than each other. Where you go on the Internet and what you do will influence how much protection you need.
