McAfee or Avira?

I currently have the free version of avira installed on my home computer but can get mcafee through work. I was looking for some advice as to whether I would be advised to change my anti-virus from avira to mcafee or not?

Since McAfee is not free then that would seem to indicate you're willing to pay to obtain some other features.

I would suggest either the paid version of Avira, or ESET NOD32 as a replacement. Though McAfee is a large name it seems that it is also a big target for Malware as well as more red tape for their programmers to go through to release stuff. The McAfee product suite is also a large drain on system resources compared to many of the other products.

But... the Free version of Avira will protect you as well or better than most, including the paid versions. You just don't get some of the more advanced features.

+1 to AdvancedSetup's comments. I'm a former McAfee user. Once the dreadful version 11 came out and decided to eat all my ram and cpu cycles I switched to Kaspersky, and I'm glad I did, it's much more effective. If Kaspersky (which isn't free) didn't exist or I couldn't afford it, I'd be using Avira myself, and NOD32 isn't bad either.
