I've been a long time user of MBAM, but I just recently realized that I've been using it illegitimately (scan tool for customer PCs). I won't be using MBAM any more at all unless something like the technician license is reintroudced, but I've received more than a little help from MBAM.

My business is tiny, a one-man help desk in a rural location. I see less than a dozen PCs per month on average, and my customers are relatively low-income. If I were selling software, their budgets would run out before I could get anything for my labor. I'd really just like to be able to pay something for all the use that I've gotten out of MBAM thus far. Due to the terms of the license, I won't be using any further, but still, it's great software!

What should I do?

Hello Ollonk,

We understand your situation and would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

At present, we do not provide a license that is designed for one-time use, where the software will

be installed on the computer, scan it, clean it, and then be uninstalled. The focus of our software is

to be proactive rather than reactive. So, our software is designed to remain resident on the computer

and proactively protect it.

If your primary customers are home users, you are welcome to direct them to our website to make

the consumer purchase to protect them from future down time and possible loss and/or corruption of data.

We appreciate your interest with Malwarebytes, and of course for any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Occasionally there are customers who are interested in actually buying antivirus software, I'll have to point them your way. Thanks for an awesome tool, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for license changes :)

(And I'm also very interested in MBAR. It does a terrific job.)

I install MSE on every machine that I take in if it does not have a paid subscription or another good free one. But thanks for the advice. I would trust a machine to MSE+MBAM long before I would trust it to most of the major Antivirus companies, honestly. Kapersky? Maybe. Most of my customers seem to hate Windows updates and love outdated versions of IE, so antivirus doesn't make much of a dent in the problem, I'm afraid.
