malware icons on other desktop icons

Recommended Posts

I have an unusual issue--the blue Malware icon is appearing superimposed on many (not all) of my other desktop icons in Windows 7. It doesn't seem to be interfering with the operation of the programs, but what's going on and how do I get rid of it? I ran Malware and Norton and no issues were found.

Hello J and welcome to MalwareBytes forums.

The association bits for icons in Windows may have gone astray.

Question: Did you run "some tool" recently? if so what?

Were there any recent changes made on this system?

I'm not aware of running any particular tools, Amazon Cloud Player, Windows Explorer, Drupal, Firefox, Outlook, iTunes, stuff like that. I'm a blogger. Not sure what "some tool" refers to. I don't use shareware very much. That explanation does sound logical--is there a way to fix it?
