Please Help a newbie

Recommended Posts

I am infected with monder, and vundo. At first I could not install Malwarebytes; renamed it, installed fine. Then it would not execute. Renamed the exe now it opens and attempts to scan, but now it won't respond. It will scan a few files, then lock, scan a few then lock again. All my other programs that don't get rid of the infections run fine, for example, ad ware alert, reg cure, run smart, malware bot.

Are these Trojans that smart? Because it seems to me that it is trying everything to prevent a scan from the powerhouse malwarebytes. Today I will try uninstalling my avast anti virus, and attempt to scan in safe mode. I am not running that alarm thing I read in another post. Any pro suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Now I am hoping if I do get a complete scan, I won't have to pay$ to remove the infections. Help please, thanks.

Hi ya,

Yes unfortunetly seems to be our problem as the better we get at beating the bad guys the more they single us out for special attention.

With reguards any scan stalling for any software, best practices are often ignored and sometimes will create some stalling scenario's in themselves.

Here's a checklist of what i would highly reccomend to anyone scanning an infected computer.

1)Disconnect from the internet to prevent malware from updating as the system is being scanned.

2)Exit all applications wherever possible with the exception of the scanning software.

3)Dont use the computer whilst a scan is in operation. For example cease all other activities on the machine eg no games,no media,no file browsing and certainly no other scanning software running.

Once a scan has started just walk away and pop the kettle on.When you check back after a few mins if the scan appears to have stalled(dont do anything!!!!) give the system the benefit of say 30mins too sort the issue itself.

If its scanning normaly then all good,if you get to the hour mark and its still frozen at the same point then its time to exit the application and seek further advice/help.

During this whole process of scanning if you follow my suggestions to the letter then if you see software not responding message....you have'nt followed my instructions B)

How do i know this...is easy because inorder for the software to generate a not responding error message then you will have touched something on your computer such as clicking on something with your mouse etc

Thank you for the quick reply, but I've tried all of the above. I noticed my cpu usage is at 100%. In fact I left the scanner running overnight, all other applications were shut down, and when I woke up I had three other scans running or completed, and the only one not responding was Malwarebytes. I am going to uninstall the others and keep trying tonight. Thanks

and if that is indeed the case...I hope you didnt pay for it.... B)

EDIT: Just by googling Malware Bot, AVAST pops up saying it blocked an attempt to connect to Malwarebot.com or something like that...

I think its safe to say that is part of your problems right there...I would say post over in the Hijack this forum.....just my 2 cents.

OK, I uninstalled malware bot, and error smart. Ran reg cure until it was finished. I started malwarebytes and it ran great----until. the screen saver came on. When I got malwarebytes back up, it was blanked out, not responding and I lost the scan--again. There is some thing that does not want malewarebytes to scan.

RegCure is not a good application and should be un-installed.

Please see:

If your PC is infected, and something is using up alot of resources...then when the Screen Saver kicks on (which pulls alot of resources and can cripple a scan) then it is going to lock up.

Do like I said and try 1 more time B)
