Windows firewall wont' turn on.

Windows 8, running avast and malware bytes trial versions, I can't turn on windows firewall.

Scans say I'm clean, I don't frequent risque sites, much.

The most risky software I have on the system is a bittorrents program. BUT I have it set to not share, and not do anything until I turn it on. I've scanned that folder and it's clean.

I'm guessing avast or malwarebytes have the firewall turned off, but I don't find anything for either admitting to it.

Can you heppa brudder out? I can figure it out, but I'm pressed for time and am hoping for someone to say, "you idiot, it's...... " and getting me on target faster...

On another note, back in the day when I was more active on the techy side of things, (I'ma use it or lose it mind...) I had fixed a disk that would boot up outside of windows and I scanned from there... Can someone help me figure out here I can get info to do that in these modern days.... 10 years later...?

Hi: :)

Well, it's hard to say (and I'm not personally familiar with Win8).

But, from what you describe, it sounds as if you could be infected (unable to turn on WF, IP blocks, running P2P software).

The safest thing would be to have one of our malware experts guide you through some specialized, deeper scans and cleaning of your computer, if needed.

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum.

So, for expert help, please follow the recommendations in this sticky topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.

Once you get the "all clear" from your helper, he/she may refer you back here for any non-malware related issues that might remain.

Thanks,

PS As far as bootable rescue disk recommendations, your malware helper can assist you with that.
