Boot issues with MBAM

Recommended Posts

I have had the same problem... xp freezes on boot... mbamservice is the first item to appear in the systray and that is what is causing the freeze. In safe mode I de-activated the "start protection module with windows" and computer starts fine. Once running if I manually start the protection module (programfiles/....../mbamservice.exe it freezes the computer and I have to reboot, but if mbam.exe is running then mbamservice.exe has no effect... it does not freeze and does not load the protection module.

What I have done is this, place a batch file in start menu to run mbam.exe at startup (otherwise I forget to start it). When the prgram loads I activate the protection module in the 'protection' tab, once the blue icon appears in the systray I can then close mbam.exe. I tried a batch file to start the protection module with a 60 second sleep, but it doesn't work.

With so many people having this problem it has to be a program fault, but doing it my way at least I am getting the protection that previous versions gave me (I hope).

Hi, juan_vale: :)

Sorry you are having a problem with 1.70 on XP.

Even though your problem sounds "the same" as that of greyowl, each computer is unique & requires a customized process to resolve a problem.

So, to minimize confusion, especially for the OP, please follow the steps in my earlier reply here to run DDS: http://forums.malwar...ndpost&p=639318

Then, please start a new, separate topic & include both logs attached to your new post.

The MBAM staff will review the logs as a starting point to pinpointing and resolving your issue.

If you are a paid user of MBAM PRO, you may wish instead to open a ticket at the helpdesk for email support >>HERE<<.

Either way, someone will assist you with resolving the problem running 1.70 on your computer.

Thanks for your understanding,

daledoc1

Hi there daledoc1

I joined the forum so I could post my 2 cents on the problem that 1.70 is giving lots of peeps. After reading a lot of the posts (and not seeing a solution to the problem) I get the impression you are overwhelming users telling them to run this program and then that program and getting them to post pages of logs, and not one solution apart from " you are running a proxy" or some other excuse to cover YOUR problem.

Before this update this problem did not exist so WE all can't have bad computers, and I'm sure if Yahoo or Google came out with an update that was causing an identical problems to many users they would look at their software to see what was causing the problem.

I told you that running mbamservice.exe without mbam.exe running, freezes the computer, its up to your gurus to figure out why. It's just plain bad software.

Thank you for your feedback Juan

However if you really want to get it fixed then you would need to either work with someone on the Help Desk or in the HJT forum where we can look into what might be causing the issue on your computer. We try to ensure that our software will run on all computers but there is no guarantee that it can or will work on over a billion computers as there are simply too many configuration variations. What we can do though is offer to assist you if you are having an issue and see if we can get it working. In most cases we typically find one of two issues. One being that updates from antivirus and our software now require updates or changes to exclusions (malware threats are getting more and more difficult so antivirus is getting tighter as well on what it allows to run) or that the computer has become infected. Without working with you though its impossible to know what the specific issue is.

Again, in the vast majority of cases the software does work as intended but certainly there are issues for some users as there are with any other software out there. We are here and willing to assist anyone running our software to either clean up their computer or get our software working properly.

Thank you again for your feedback and hopefully you will take us up on our offer to help you.

  • 2 years later...

My Windows XP (32bit) system would not complete bootup due to mbamservice freezing up. Finally had to boot in safe mode and used msconfig to inactivate it. The software test department at Malwarebytes needs to seriously test new builds on Windows XP (32bit).  Please fix this issue and let me know when it is fixed.   I curently have buggy version 2.1.8.1057

Hello and :welcome: , myisland:

Sorry you are having problems with MBAM 2.1.8.1057 on your XP system.

This thread is over 2 years old and based on a long outdated, unsupported version of MBAM.

So, the replies really aren't relevant today.

In order to better assist you, we would need a bit of basic system information.

I suggest that you please do the following:

  • First, please carefully follow the advice in this sticky topic to generate 3 diagnostic logs and save them on your desktop: Diagnostic Logs.
  • Then, please start a new, separate forum post using this clickable cjfj.png button.
  • When you do, please ATTACH all 3 logs to to that new post.

That way, the forum staff and experts can provide you with customized assistance.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding,
